Mexico sites earn elite certification for preventing plastic pellet loss

8/21/2025

Dart manufacturing facilities in Tijuana and Atlacomulco, Mexico, recently earned recertification for another three years by meeting rigorous standards in preventing plastic pellets from entering the environment.

Dart is one of only seven companies in Mexico to have sites earn the elite Blue certification through the Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) zero pellet loss program.

“We’re proud to lead the efforts to establish best practices in pellet prevention, containment, cleanup and disposal,” said Gerardo Pedra Rocha, Dart’s Regional Manager of Government Affairs and Recycling for Latin America. “The industry has a responsibility to the environment and creating a circular economy that optimizes the use of plastic materials worldwide.”

The US plastics industry created OCS to establish standards for containing material used in plastic manufacturing and preventing it from entering nature – and eventually streams, rivers and lakes. The National Association of the Plastics Industry (ANIPAC) in Mexico adopted the initiative in 2011.

Adhering to OCS Blue requirements ensures we’re meeting the gold standard in our industry for eliminating pellet, flake, and powder loss.
