Score! Dart reusables in play at pro soccer venue

Thanks to a partnership with Bold Reuse, some Major League Soccer fans in Portland, OR, are enjoying their concession treats in Dart-designed reusable food boats.

Providence Park – home of MLS’s Portland Timbers – is the first venue in the US to use stadium-specific reusable containers developed by Dart as part of a circular packaging system.

Supplying the reusable containers is one more way Dart is giving people the freedom to enjoy the food and drink they love wherever they are.

“We’re trying to be part of the solution, and we’re working with a lot of people who are in the reusables space,” said Noel Dolan, Innovation Manager. “We’re working with startups and national accounts, among others, as we get out there and explore the market.”

In this case, Dart is aligned with Bold Reuse, which has a growing network of partners that includes sports teams, event venues, restaurants and municipalities aiming to reduce waste. As of now, Providence Park is limiting its reusables program to certain premium suite and field seats, but the venue expanded into more containers and seating areas since piloting a program last year that included only cups.

To feed the circular system, fans place their used containers in collection bins so Bold Reuse can wash and return them to the venue. During last year’s pilot, Providence Park diverted more than 40,000 single-use cups from landfill, eliminating 2,000 pounds of waste.
